Patients are often surprised to discover that traditional acupuncturists use more than just needles. Here are some examples of the treatments you may be offered.
Acupuncture. In this video Martin Dean talks about gentle needle insertion.
Moxibustion. Moxa is often used in conjunction with acupuncture to enhance the effect of the treatment. The dried herb, Moxa, is used like incense to gently and safely warm the body, relax muscles and supplement qi. Watch a demonstration.
Cupping. This is an age-old technique used in traditional Chinese medicine to stimulate acupuncture points or larger areas of the body. Cupping is often practised alongside acupuncture but can also be used as a treatment in its own right.
Auricular (ear) acupuncture. This uses acupuncture points located in the ear.
Guasha. Vigorous rubbing of the skin to increase blood flow and clear stagnant qi
Electro acupuncture. A very low frequency electrical current (1Hz) is applied to the needle to increase blood flow, relax muscle tissue and clear stagnant qi
